Finnish Military Music

FINNISH MILITARY MUSIC
Military music was introduced to Finland by folk musicians, pipers and drummers. Finnish military music has at least 452 year-long national traditions if the 1544 Diet of Västerås is regarded the starting point. During this period King Gustav Wasa wanted to strengthen the structure of Sweden-Finland by a national army. Following German models, infantry troops were formed. The first Finnish troops with pipers, drummers, cavalry buglers and kettle drummers were established to fight in the Russian War of 155

Food

For many people in our country food, eating, sometimes also cooking, is a downright pleasure. There are some people who eat just once a day. They have got one continuous meal, others are figure-conscious and try to fast, cut down on about meals. We eat more than the British or American do and our food is known to be less healthly. The Czechs are used to eating many floury, sweet and fatty meals, such as dumplings, pastry, fat pork and sausages.
In different parts if Britain people have different eating habits. In England daily meals usua

From the history of Great Britain....

Between the 6th and the 3rd century BC, the British Isles were invaded by Celtic tribes who settled in southern England. They originally came from the central Europe. Their culture goes back to about 1200 BC. Between 500 and 250 BC, they were the most powerful people north of the Alps. Originally they were pagan, with priests called Druids. They later converted to Christianity. It was Celtic missionaries who spread the Christian religion through Scotland and Northern England.
The Celts were famous artists, known for their sophisticated d

Geoffrey Chaucer-Canterbury Tales

Geoffrey Chaucer , sometimes called „father of English literature“, was the preeminent English poet, and still retains the position as the most significant poet to write in Middle English. Chaucer was born in the early 1340s to a middle-class family. His father, John Chaucer, was a vintner and deputy to the king's butler. His family's financial success came from work in the wine and leather businesses. Little information exists about Chaucer's education, but his writings demonstrate a close familiarity with a number of import

George Orwell 1984

1984: Loyalty as the ultimate tool of Power

George Orwell's "1984" presents a haunting vision of one man's struggle to remain free within a totalitarian society. In a world where even free thought is a crime, Winston Smith chooses to revolt against the "Machine," as the anti-utopian government system, which uses a number of brainwashing and forceful techniques to control the citizens and their every day life. Loyalty of every man to Big Brother and consequently to the party is strictly enforced to ens

George Orwell's "Animal Farm"

“Animal Farm” by George Orwell is a novel based on the lives of a society of animals living on the Manor Farm. Although the title of the book suggests the book is merely about animals, the story is a much more in depth analysis of the workings of society in Communist Russia. The animals are used as puppets to illustrate how the communist class system operated, and how Russian citizens responded to this, and how propaganda was used by early Russian leaders such as Stalin, and the effect this type of leadership had on the behaviour of the peo

Global Problems

First of all I want to say that I know lots of global problems but I decided to write only about one of them: HUMAN POPULATION. Because I am keen on geography, I have some information about this topic.

Population and Feeding the World

In fact, the food scarcity part of the argument in the population debate is an interesting one -- people are hungry not because the population is growing so fast that food is becoming scarce, but because people cannot afford it. Food may be scarce, b
