William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616)
LIFE
He is considered to be the greatest of all dramatists
all over the world. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon. He had one sister and one brother, he was the youngest. In 1592 he came to London and joined a group of actors known as the Lord Chamberlain's Men. First he helped adapt or re-write older plays but later he started to write his own plays and he was very successful. His plays were first published in 1623. He is buried at local Trinity Church.
WORK
He wrote 37 plays and beautiful sonnets.
Comedies: The Comedy of Errors, The Taming of the Shrew, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, A Midsummer-Night's Dream, Much Ado about Nothing, As You Like It.
History plays: Henry VI, Richard III, Richard II, Julius Caesar.
Tragedies: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear, Othello.
INSPIRATION FOR CZECH ARTISTS
The most important translator here was Josef Vaclav Sladek who translated nearly all work of Shakespeare in the second half of the19th century. Among further translators belong: A. Klastersky, Josef Topol, M. Zantovsky.
Favourite Authors
I read very much. My favourite writer is Stephen King. I ve
read many of his books. He is an excellent writer of thrillers - like Misery, The Shining, The Needful Things, Carrie and his famous novel It. Among my favourite author belong also John Grisham, he is an American writer and his novel are almost from law sphere. I like also classic crime novels by Agatha Christie or John le Carre and Graham Greene.
