What are Americans like?

1. Who are they?
In the 1492 with the discovering of the new continent by Christopher Columbus Europe get a new continent to explore and to conquer. Many people who live in beggary or were persecuted because of their religion or political attitude in many countries of the Europe tried to get over Atlantic Ocean and start a new life in America (it started in early 17th century). Also many slaves from central Africa were transported to North America. As time go by United States of America were formed and all these people of many cultures and habits become one nation. During 17th ,18th and 19th came over 25 million refugees from Europe, Asia and Australia. The last wave of refugees came in 20th century just before start of WWI. and WWII. In the present you can find a "colonies" in many American towns (China towns, etc.). Now USA exports their films, music and other aspects of their culture to nearly whole world. But their culture is just mosaic of many world cultures get to harmony (but sometimes are American films really stupid).

2. What kind people they are?
I don't know much about normal Americans, because I live in small country in the center of Europe. I've already been to USA (Philadelphia, New York), but its long time ago and it was to short to learn more about Americans. All I can remember is that everybody was in hurry, haven't got any time to get a normal lunch, just to get some hot-dog or another not so healthy fast food. And also nearly everyone was traveling by car. If I compare it to Czech Republic where everyone is getting normal lunch and everyone is traveling by public transport its great difference. Another things are that Americans are high-principled and they hate any unfairness (on anyone), because they remember that their ancestors must suffered same unfairness as some people on the world now (religion, political attitudes, etc.). But they sometimes get too far (like attack on Afghanistan, where one rocket hit Pakistan village). This things also makes some persons very upset (Saddam & others). Last but not least, Americans love their country, not just because they can live somewhere, but because they can live in the country which was built by their fathers from nothing and they are proud to be American to live in the country of "unlimited possibilities" and freedom for all.

3. What do Americans like/dislike?
I've already said something about this in previous article, but I would like to write this part a bit about American lifestyle. Americans likes sports. I thing that most popular is Baseball and American football, then is basketball and ice hockey and finally soccer (maybe I'm not right). Thousands of people often go to stadium and buy popcorn, sausages, ice cream and they want to see something what could interest and entertain them. These are passive sports, but Americans also practices some recreation sports like fishing. Very popular is bowling. Its opportunity to talk with your friends, to relax and maybe to win. Another games of this type (I mean you can talk with your friends, etc.) are pool and darts. The next thing that Americans likes isn't very good - watching TV a lot. Some Americans could spend nearly whole life in front of TV, even they didn't know what does "theatre" or "cinema" means. Also the like food, especially Chinese, Italian and Indian specialties. And what Americans didn't like? If I leave out all these Saddams, communists, Castros and others I couldn't recall anything right now (maybe they didn't like if national hockey team loose on winter Olympics).

4. Do I know any American?
Yes, I know some Americans, but they are a bit different that normal average American. I've met them when I was on some congresses in foreign countries with my mother and they were in Prague for one or two times. They are from Nevada from Reno and they are medical doctors (not average, I said). I don't know what I can say more about them. They are just normal. Oh, I've nearly forgot. I know one more American. She's a girlfriend of my friend. She lived here in Prague for one or two years I think, but now she's going back to USA. I'm not sure, but I think that she lives in San Francisco.

5. Do I want to live in USA?
This is very difficult question. I'm happy here in Prague in Czech republic and I don't want to move somewhere in the close future. But if I had to choose some place in USA to live at? I think that best would be San Francisco. I saw some pictures and read some books which took a place there (J. Kerouac - On the road) I think that Frisco is beautiful city, not so big, with shining people all around. Also lot of music clubs and pubs makes a nice atmosphere in the city. Maybe some other places could be nice place to live. But still I'm content here where I am now. Maybe few years later I will change my attitude.

6. End?
I've just written an article about what I think about Americans. I'm interested what are Americans thinking about life in Czech republic and do they want to live here for longer time, not just for studies or year or two to learn something about us. Maybe someone could write similar article about it...
