This countries coveres less than 2 per cent of the world´s land area. And the prime meridian of 0.o .pases through the odl observatory at Greenwich. No point in the country is more than 121 km from the sea.
Great Britain is divided into England, Scotland and Wales.The other island Ireland covers Northern Ireland, which belongs to the UK.
London is the capital of GB. Other towns: Oxford, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Stratford, York, Dover.
The capital of the Scotland is Edinburgh, although the biggest is anindustrial one – Glasgow.
From other islands we could mention the Isle of Wight, Isle of Scilly, Isle of Man.
Scotland is surrounded by numerous islands- The Hebrides, Orkneys, Shetlands, Channel Islands near the French coast.
Mountains - The main - Penines called also as the backbone of the England. The higher mountains are Ben Nevis in Scotland and Snowdon in Wales.
Lakes – Lake District : the big area in Scotland of many lakes, 2 most famous are Loch Lomond and Loch Ness.
Longest rivers : Severn and Thames inEngland and Clyde in Scotland.
Britain has equable climate determined by Atlantic, although during the winter months easterly winds may bring cold and dry type of weather.Rains are very common throughout the year. Therefore the country is covered with green vegetation. The elaborate land drainage systém have been developed to bring the fertile soil.
Political systém : Britain is a monarchy. Queen Elizabeth is the head of the state.In practise she reigns, but does not rule.The country is governed by the Goverment, a body of ministers, who are reponsible to Parliment. Prince Charles is the heir to the throne.
