he had landed on the India
1620 – Puritans left the English port of Plymouth , their ship named Mayflower reached Cape
Cod at November 9,1620
1733 – the English owned 13 separate colonies along the Atlantic coast of North America
16.12.1773 – The Boston tea party, a group of patriots dressed as Mohawks threw a cargo of
British tea into the sea
1774 – the first Continental congres in Philadelphia
1775 - 1783 – The War of Independence , the redcoats (the British) vs. the patriots (American
militiamen)
– the war began at Lexington
5.1775 – a second Continental congress in Philadelphia and began to acta s an American
national government
4.7.1776 – the Declaration of Independence was signed (written by Thomas Jefferson)
– colonies were now free and independent states, officialy the United States of
Amerika
1777 – American victory at Saratoga
1781 – British General Cornwallis surrendered his army to George Washington
1783 – treaty of Paris was signed,it granted the USA all of North America from Canada to
Florida and from the Atlantic coast to the Mississippi River and the USA had been
Recognized as an independent nation
1788 – the new Constitution was ratified by the needed majority of states
– George Washington was elected the first president
Monroes doctrine : American foreign policy shick warned European nations not to interfere
in the American Continents affairs and called for non colonisation of the
Westen Hemisphere by the Europeans
1861 – 1865 – Civil war , Southern States vs. Northern States
Southern States – farms, plantations
Northern States – industrial area with factories,growing cities
1861 – South Carolina and another 10 states seceded from the Union and called themselves
Confederate States of America
– Jefferson Davis choosen as a president
1863 – Emancipation proclamation issued by A.Lincoln in 1862,granted freedom for all
sloves
9.4.1865 – the Confederate General Lee was forced to surrender in a small village
Appamattox
– the war was over
1865 – President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by J.W.Booth,an actor and
fanatical Confederate supporter in Fords Theatre in Washington
