Culture and art
Cultural life in our town is not so rich as in large cities. In spite of that, there are some ways of spending leisure time. We can go to the cinema, to the theatrical performance, dancing, or we can stay at home and listen to the radio, watch television and read books.
People need culture. They need to go to the cinema, theatre or an exhibition. Culture is something that forms human character, and it is necessary for children to know it. But they do not have time. And that is the biggest problem ever.
It isn’t easy for a young person to find time to enjoy culture. Children are not generally interested in culture at their age, while adults are short of free time. Despite being so busy, almost everybody finds the time to go to the cinema, the theatre or an exhibition. Even I suffer from lack of free time. Sometimes luckily I find some time for going to the cinema. But I spend most of free time by listening to music, reading, watching television, or surfing on Internet.
Cinema belongs among the most popular cultural activities. There is one cinema in our town. If we want to go there, we must buy a ticket about half an hour before the performance. The price of tickets varies greatly. People are too lazy to leave their place, have little free time and own televisions, video recorders and DVDs, so they don’t need to go to the cinema. I think that going to the cinema with friends is much better than sitting in front of TV.
Small towns provide few opportunities to see theatre performances. In our town there isn’t a theatre. To the theatre people usually come dressed up, they can leave their coats in the cloakroom. People usually read the programme before the play to see who stars in the play and who plays the supporting roles, something about the plot and who designed the stage scenery and costumes. When the performance is over, the audience bursts into applause.
Radio and television
are also a part of people’s lives. Some people have a nasty habit to turn on television immediately after coming home. Some people like watching TV, but some are against that. You can learn foreign languages from TV and it's wonderful source of information, but on the other hand there is a lot of crime and violence. Everyone can choose those programmes which he or she prefers and if you have a satellite you have more programs to choose from. On TV you can see almost everything.
Reading literature
is another source of knowledge and culture. We can buy books, or we can borrow them in a library. If we need information, it’s good to have various dictionaries, encyclopaedias and atlases close at hand.
We can visit museums, too, but our town does not have any. There are many kinds of museums. These can be museums of history, agriculture, industry and so on. Lots of place take exhibitions there. On entering an exhibition hall we must usually pay a certain fee. Besides the exhibition of paintings, there are exhibitions of photography, sculpture, as well as exhibitions of objects made of wood, iron, glass etc.
When I was small we used to visit castles with my parents. Nowadays, my parents are quite busy, so they don’t have much free time to go sightseeing. I like sightseeing tours.
I like listening to the radio, but I prefer listening to my favourite CDs. It’s my biggest hobby. Music is always something new for me. I can listen to it all day long, and it’s still something new for me. I like all music except folk music, and I prefer music in fast tempo, something like Haus, Techno, Mix, Remix, Metal or Trance. I love listening to dance music created by one of the most famous international Djs and producers all over the world – Dj Paul van Dyk.
Paul van Dyk was born on 16 December 1971 in Eisenhuettenstadt, East Germany. Paul grew up in communist East Berlin. He was only able to see Westside on TV and listen to western radio stations.
He recorded that music and replayed it at his parties, because in the east they didn't have anything like a club culture. Then in 1989, when the Berlin Wall finally came down and a broad Club culture sprung up throughout all of Berlin, he played hard Detroit – Techno. Soon he created the first remix tapes of his musical ideas. And only a bit later, in March 1991, his unique style of dance music was played to the public for the very first time at the embryonic Berlin club "Tresor". At that time Paul also started making his own original compositions. His first production "Perfect Day" was released in 1992. In 1993 Paul created the club hit of the year with his remix of Humate's "Love Stimulation".
In the following year, his first album "45 RPM" was recorded. After few years Paul released his second album, “Seven Ways”, which firmly established him as one of the world’s truly great electronic artists. In 1998 his first album “45 RPM” was released in the United Kingdom. Paul never comes into a club and spins just a ready set (composition), nobody knows in advance how it will end. One day he says: “I’ve never made music for being trendy or making the fat money. I make music for myself.
The final year of the millennium was an especially honour-filled one for international DJ and producer Paul van Dyk. He was voted the “Best Music Maker”, in 1999 he received the “Best international DJ award”, he was voted as the “Best international DJ”, and that`s nearly same about his production.
There is no doubt that Paul is one of the greatest professional international Djs in the world.
In the theatre we can see comedy, drama, tragedy.
A few months ago I was on a trip organized by school. We went to the Theatre of Jonáš Záborský in the city of Prešov. We saw a stage play called Women`s Law. It`s author was Joseph Gregor – Tajovsky.
It was play about property avidity and love between Annie Javorova and Michael Malecky. Their mothers argue most of the time. Michael`s mother, Mara, wants him to be a husband of the reeve’s ugly daughter because of the money. When Michael returns home from the war, he finds out what his mother intend to do and it’s getting harder and harder. But this problem comes to an end thanks to Michael’s father John Malecky. He solves the problem in favour of Annie and Michael. They get married and in the end everyone is happy.
There is no doubt that culture and art belong to our lives. We need them, because it is some kind of relaxation, which forming our spirit.
