Computers in Education
Computers
are the future, knowing how to work with them is almost necessary and will help
people to get jobs. The computer industry develops very fast and it is more
difficult to adapt to a new system than to learn about the new system with no
further experience with computers.
It is not so important to teach so much about working with computers in schools because this knowledge will be obsolete in the time of working. Students still have to learn things like mathematics or logics because this is the only way that makes one to appreciate the computer.Computers are more suitable for training than for education, if we don’t speak about learning how to use some software or how to create an application.
Computers are the future, in the future everything
will be under the control of computers, it would be impossible to live in this
world without the knowledge of using computers. All of us will agree that we
should use computers in the education process, the only question is how much.
Children should be taught dealing with computer in an appropriate way already
in the years of the basic school, because in this time it could be the most
effective education, small children can learn a lot in a very short time and
they can also remember very complicated things, things which are more difficult
to remember for an adult man. Computers are often connected with games, which
are very popular among the young generation. Playing computer games could be
the best way how to be familiar with computers. Back to the education, playing
computer games would only be the right way of teaching how to use a computer,
but we should teach children some basic term and operations, too. It is wrong
to learn details about certain applications, computer languages or the system,
because they are changing, developing every few years and so it is better to
learn only the important things dealing with the usage. Later, if interested,
everybody can do more and learn more about computers.
The other question is whether we should use computer
in the normal education process, for example for learning physics, geography or
foreign languages. I thing that it depends on the way of someones learning.
Most people learn visually, they have to see or read things to learn. But there
are also people who prefer to hear the information they should remember. For
all kind of people computer can help to understand things that are very
difficult to understand. I mean for example simulations, graphics or audio
visualizations can make learning easier. There are many possibilities for
learning foreign languages, you can see the written text, the computer
pronounces the words in the correct form, you get the grammar rules explained
and at the end of the lesson you have to pass a test. This could be more
effective in the selflearing of foreign languages, but we can see this also as
only a form of practising because: “A teacher is a teacher”. It is difficult to
ask a computer: “How is this meant?” Computer cannot be personal, it cannot
considerate your age, education, social background etc. in the answer. A
computer can only be a complementary, supporting aid to the teacher, it cannot
replace the teacher.
