Bronte Sisters

Emily, Charlotte and Anne Bronte
Charlotte, Anne and Emily Bronte were three sisters who all wrote poetry and novels.
Charlotte and Emily have had an important influence on English literature.
The parents of Bronte sisters were Patrick Bronte and Maria Branwell. Patrick was a vicar.
They had six children , five girls and one boy, who were born between 1813 and 1820.
In 1824 four older girls were sent to school which exists only from gifts. The conditions there
were terrible and all the girls were very unhappy. Charlotte later used this school as a model
in her Jane Eyre. Two girls even died there.
During the following years Charlotte, Emily and Anne and also their brother Branwell wrote
their first books - about fantasy world, which appeared in their minds.
Branwell was talented writer and painter, but he sank into drug and alcohol use.
Charlotte and Emily worked as a governesses for a short time - but they really hated this
worked. After that ugly experience they went to Brussel to study languages. Charlotte fell in
love with her professor and this experience she after presented in her first novel named The
Professor. After some time they published a book of poetry titled The Poems of Currer, Ellis
and Acton Bell. (Curre was Charlotte, Ellis was Emily and Acton Anne). These poems did not
attract any attention but next year each of three sisters wrote a novel. Emily´s Wuthering
Heights and Anne´s Agnes Grey were really succesfull but Charlotte´s The Professor wasn´t.
Then she wrote Jane Eyre - it was immediately accepted by society. It made Charlotte
famous. Then she wrote the next novel - The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
In 1848 series of tragedy began. Branwel died and after him Emily died because of
tuberculosis and after one year Anne died because of the same illness. Charlotte continued to
write and lived with her father. And her glory also continued. In 1854 Charlotte married
Reverend Arthur Bell Nichols and they seemed to be happy together. After one year she died
because of complications in pregnancy.
The work of Anne Bronte
Anne was the least talented of all three sisters. Her novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall was
about a young girl who married and alcoholic (the character was based on her brother
Branwell) .
The work of Charlotte Bronte
Her first novel The Professor wasn´t accepted by public opinion. Her next novelmade her
famous - Jane Eyre. Teh next one - Shirley was similar to some works of Jane Austen. Her
