Bratislava sight - seeing tour
It is the capital city of the Slovak republic from 1993.It is situated on the banks of the river Danube. It has only 450000 inhabitants. But there are some quarters: Petržalka, Vinohrady, Dúbravka.
It is the centre of political, cultural institutions, the seat of the Parliament and of the Government. We can find here many institutions, universities, theatres- P.O.Hviezdoslav Theatre, The Slovak National Theatre. Lovers of arts can visit the Slovak National Gallery, the Bratislava Art Gallery in the Primates `s Palace. So there are also palaces: Grassalchovich palace, Mirbach palace.
Typical symbol of this town is Bratislava Castle. First it was built in 907.The palace was built by the Hungarian King Zsigmond. In 1811 it burnt down and it was in ruins untill1953,when it was adapted. Now it is a museum.
Primate `s palace-It was built in the 18 century in Classicist style.
Academia Istropolitana -It was the first university in this territory established by the Hungarian king Mathias Corvinus in 1467.Today there is the Academy of Music and Drama.
St. Martin `s Cathedral-It was built in the 13th century in gothic style. It was the scence of 18 coronations of Hungarian kings. On the top there is a Hungarian crown.
Slavín -is a hill on the West side of the town, with a large monument.
Michael `s Gate and Tower: There is a museum of arms.
There are many beautiful fountains in Bratislava.-Roland `s fountain, Hviezdoslav `s square-which was rebuilt 3 years ago , Safarik square.
There are 4 bridges:
Old bridge, New bridge, Pier brige, Bridge Lafrankony.
There are a lot of factories:
Slovnaft, Istrochem, Matador. Every year is a music festival. There are airport, too. Exhibition for men is Incheba. And exhibition of flowers is for women. It ´s name is Flora.
