A saint named Valentine

The most popular saint named Valentine probably lived around year A. D. 270 in the Roman empire. At that time the Christians could not worship openly because it was a crime. One story says that the emperor had forbidden young men to marry because he wanted them as recruits the Roman army. But the brave priest named Valentine performed secret marriage ceremonies. He was arrested and placed in prison. Even after he was put in jail Saint Valentine remained cheerful and kind. His friends tossed him some post cards and flowers into his cell. His head was cut off on February 14th.
